Concept
Perched at the tip of Albert Pier, our reimagined Pier 17 is conceived as a landmark dining destination that captures the energy, views and character of St Peter Port harbour. Our concept is a contemporary, design-led restaurant that responds sensitively to its historic setting while unlocking the full potential of this unique waterfront site.
The architecture draws directly from its surroundings. A sculpted ground floor “plinth” anchors the building to the pier, echoing the solidity and curvature of the harbour walls, while a lighter, glazed pavilion sits above, maximising panoramic sea views and creating a striking yet elegant silhouette. This layered composition reduces the building’s perceived mass from key viewpoints, allowing it to sit comfortably within the conservation area.
At first floor level, the restaurant is designed as a fully immersive dining experience. A continuous glazed façade, framed by rhythmic structural columns, offers uninterrupted 360-degree views across the harbour, while deep-set openings provide solar shading and a sense of intimacy at each table. The bar is positioned to the west to capture afternoon and evening light, opening onto generous terraces that extend the dining experience outdoors and bring life to the pier.
Materiality and detailing reference the evolving language of the harbour itself, blending the robustness of traditional granite with the repetition and lightness of marina structures. The result is a building that feels both grounded and contemporary, with a strong visual identity from every approach.
Beyond its architectural expression, the scheme is driven by flexibility and longevity. The ground floor introduces adaptable spaces that can support a range of uses throughout the day, ensuring year-round activity and commercial resilience, while the upper level delivers a high-quality restaurant environment with a strong connection to its setting.
Pier 17 is envisioned not just as a restaurant, but as a catalyst for the wider harbour — a destination that would elevate the dining offer in Guernsey while contributing positively to the public realm and the evolving identity of St Peter Port’s waterfront.
